The seven eggs of Finland´s epic Kalevala
Kalevala formed from the tangled egg of the Kalevala world birth story -work honors Finnish folk poetry with its clean-lined style. Finland’s folk poetry archive is the largest of its kind in the world. Finnish national epic Kalevala has inspired numerous artists, especially during the golden age of Finnish art. Free mouth blown, signed. The large, ground and polished surfaces of the work require a lot of skillful and precise work. For a unique piece, if necessary, we make a beautifully hand-engraved proprietary writing according to the customer’s wishes. We also deliver the works by laser-logo engravings by special order.
Designer Panu Turunen (1978) graduated from the Institute of Designand Fine Arts of Lahti University of Applied Sciences in 2004. He workas a designer in industrial field as well as in applied arts. Already in 2003,Turunen familiarized himself with freely mouthblown glass in Nuutajärviglass village, and ever since he has worked in close association withMaster glassblower Kari Alakoski, who has won the Nordic Championshipin glassblowing. The glass art designed by Turunen is created in close association with the Master glassblower Kari Alakoski at the traditional milieu of the oldglassworks of Riihimäki. In the clarity of Turunen’s design one can seeinfluences of the golden era of the Finnish glass design, the early decadesof the 20th century when such masters as Tapio Wirkkala, Timo Sarpanevaand Kaj Franck started to reign. The aim of Turunen is to express an idea found from the Finnish naturewith the stylized, fine lines so typical of freeblown glass. In his design,Turunen favors minimalized natural shapes such as drops of water andwavy surface of water, symbolizing the uniqueness of nature and respect for environment.
